Species: cordoba fighting dog
The Cordoba Fighting Dog is an extinct breed of dog that originated from Argentina and was primarily bred for fighting in pits. It was a crossbreed of Alano Español (Spanish Alaunt), Mastiff and Boxer, along with various other breeds.
It was a very fierce, very aggressive, strong, vigorous, and relentless dog with high stamina. It was not good with other animals, and due to their size and strength, they would have made terrible pets if they weren't extinct, as they were aggressive even towards their owners. Rather unusually for a dog, they wouldn't hunt in packs as they'd likely turn on their packmates. They also had a rather poor sense of smell, and excelled only in fighting. Their aggression towards potential mates and the fact of many individuals dying in the ring during fights contributed to the breed's extinction.
The Dogo Argentino is directly derived from the Cordoba Fighting Dog, developed in the 1920s by crossbreeding the latter with the Bull Terrier, Bulldog, Great Dane, Great Pyrenees and Dogue de Bordeaux.
