caption

A caption is a message that is displayed over an image, or animation, or somewhere nearby that usually describes some aspect of the image. The content of the message is not important; it is how the information is presented that matters.

Comic captions

Information typically contained within text boxes in a comic are considered a type of caption, but narrative elements, and dialogue should use their respective tags instead of the caption tag. This tag may be used for comics when the content consists of mostly time, location, or other non-narrative information about the scene. A text box containing such information should be tagged as a caption box. The caption box tag may be used for any text box that contains a caption.
