Invalid: video games
The old practice of using video_games on anything related to a video game franchise is being changed. The video_games tag is being removed. The images are being kept. See topic #29801
Video game characters will continue to be tagged with the tags for their IPs (the franchise tags and the company tags), but not with 'video_games'.
The many other meanings that were getting lost under 'video_games' also have other tags which make them a lot more searchable.
Some of these more specific tags that we still have for searches include:
- gaming
- playing_videogame
- game_controller
- game_console
- game_case
- game_screen
- game_background
- videogame_setting
- gameplay_mechanics
- game_over
- bad_end
- arcade
...to list a few of the main ones.
Also, many of the game consoles and systems have tags listed here:
See topic #29801 for more reasons behind the change. This tag is used for any image or animation which shows a video game, hardware related to operating a video game, or a character, species, or item that relates to a video game copyright or franchise, as part of the scene.
A video game is an electronic game that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a two- or three-dimensional video display device such as a touchscreen, virtual reality headset or monitor/TV set. Since the 1980s, video games have become an increasingly important part of the entertainment industry, and whether they are also a form of art is a matter of dispute.
For an image or animation which just shows a character playing a video game, use playing_videogame instead.
