A (sharp) pointed protrusion, either as part of a body commonly found on dragons and other reptiles or as a long sharp object without a handle. Typically considerably larger than e.g. a nail and possibly as part of a weapon or as a to prevent access or fend off attackers. A spike has to be sharp and at least longer than its width at the base (in round cases, the diameter at the base) – otherwise it is a stud.

- spines, which are needle-like
