Spandex shorts (also known as compression shorts, cycling shorts, bike shorts, or spats) are tight, stretchy, pocketless shorts that, as the name suggests, are made of spandex (or a mix of spandex and polyester).
Spandex shorts are typically worn while cycling, weightlifting, doing yoga or other exercise, and commonly seen around gyms, but they may be worn casually as well. While spandex shorts are most often worn by women, they are unisex bottomwear, men can be seen wearing them as well.
Spandex shorts are usually matte black in reality - or another flat dark/neutral colour - but are frequently depicted as shiny in artwork. Most spandex shorts are "boy cut", with coverage similar to boxer briefs, however, they can come in a variety of leg lengths, ranging from a length comparable with hotpants, to coming down to just above the wearer's knees.
