    In an effort to see some rack I spoke to my grumpy panties friend, I mistakenly thought that she might get her other leg out the grumpy panties if I commiserated with her(like a good friend would) I asked what was wrong and if she'd like to chat about it and much to my surprise I was told I wouldn't understand I'm a guy.     I don’t think it’s sexist to acknowledge that there are obvious differences between males & females that make it difficult for one to fully understand the other.

    Do you think men can TRULY understand what it’s like to deal with menstruation every month or to give birth? Do you think women can TRULY understand what it’s like to have an erection or experience erectile dysfunction?

    Do most men "get" why shoes are such a big deal to women? Do most women "get" the big deal about cars or power tools?

    That doesn’t mean we can’t or shouldn’t attempt to discuss our feelings as related to our differences… without communication, there would be even less understanding. I don’t think your friend was right to cut off the conversation, but I understand the reaction. I don’t think men are any "less" than women (or vice-versa), but our biology, experiences, and emotions aren’t exactly identical.

    It’s not just a male/female thing, either. As a parent, I can get annoyed with constant child-rearing "advice" from non-parents, and my good friend in Kansas will NEVER understand why I would "risk my life" on the NYC subway.

    The world would be a boring place if we were all identical, but communication can help us at least TRY to understand or relate to others’ outlooks.

    (My opinion comes from work, in different jobs I have seen men in general are more capable. Women are raised to put themself and their children first, not saying that is a bad quality. But work wise men are stronger and more focused on work since they are often raised to be providers)

    I dunno, I tend to think that if this is a long-term relationship and she's saying you 'wouldn't understand' it's a possible sign she's tried to tell you before and got a negative response. If she pins it on you being a guy it might be just candycoating.

    I think, in general, people prefer to share their thoughts, emotions, ideas, especially with people they're close to. If you're close, she'd want to do that. If she doesn't feel safe doing that, it's reflective of the relationship history. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe that's just me.

    I share lots of stuff with my male friends. Some they understand, some they don't, but the more they hear about things, doesn't it make sense that they'll begin to understand or at least be aware more? And vice versa; I love hearing about daily experiences and challenges from my guys. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't, but it's always fascinating to get a glimpse into that male mind.
