Description
Having recently turned seventeen and come of age, it's time for Alystair to decide what he wants to do in life. The obvious choice would be to follow in his father's footsteps and become a ranger, but he's been shown little of what Rorick actually does. A few woodland survival skills, the rudiments of hunting and tracking, and such, but precious little elsewise.
Rorick was given leave from the commander of the King's Rangers himself to take his son and evaluate if he had what it took to become one of them. Deciding to make a family trip of it, Elyza tags along, wanting to spend more time with her husband before he's off on his next watch. The three would spend a month in the woods, living off the land and, in general, roughing it. The daughter of traveling trader, Elyza was used to such, though out of practice, but Alystair has spent much of his youth in the safety of the town, save for brief trips out with his father that grew few as the years passed.
As the three settled into a clearing Rorick had chosen for camp, he set Alystair to gather firewood while he gave Elyza a tour of the nearby woods.
Having hiked deeper into the kingswood, Rorick and Elyza set up on log next to the river. Deciding to have some "fun time" while they had a brief bit of privacy, the two get to it with minimal undressing. Turns out Alystair had taken up more from his old man then they realized and he tracked them to their secret spot. Upon discovering the interloper, Elyza decides that it might as well be time to show her son exactly what it means to be a man.
------------
I've finally done some work on Rorick's place in my fantasy setting. One of the things I've determined is that he doesn't always end up with Elyssa. While they're certainly soulmates and bound to get together when I place them in the same setting, I feel that variety is the spice of life. So here I introduce two new characters as a consequence of that: Rorick's wife Elyza and their son Alystair. Haven't fully fleshed them out, but here they're brought to life by the wonderful LordoftheTroglodytes
I've got plans for these three, so keep an eye out for future updates!
