Should have added it to my comment, but I only just now thanks to you realized that there's a chance Elh was basically "sterile" while immortality was present as it affected their with Beluga bodies. Emphasis on "was", making whole thing a bit less deceitful but way more reckless

I guess it's possible that, after hundreds of years and however many sexual partners while having immortality function as essentially the ultimate contraception, Elh just didn't think to consider that pregnancy was in the cards again.
