Leni Klum Shares How She Handles 'Misogynistic' Comments on Her Lingerie Ads with Mom Heidi Klum

"I always try to remember that no matter what you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it," she said

Leni Klum has learned how to tune out the haters.

Since making her professional modeling debut in 2021, the 20-year-old has dealt with criticism around her career, including projects that involve her famous supermodel mom, Heidi Klum — but she tries not to get sucked into the hate.

In a new cover story for Glamour Germany, which was originally published in German, Leni spoke about how she handles "sexist and misogynistic" commentary around her and her mom's lingerie campaigns for Intimissimi, with whom the pair have been working since October 2022.

For their debut ad with the brand, the two showcased their close bond while dancing around in bras and underwear. While posing in coordinating undergarments has been a trend in the two's work with the company, they did wear more toned-down apparel for a generational spot featuring Heidi's mother, Erna Klum.

"I always try to remember that no matter what you do, there will always be someone who doesn't like it. You simply have no control over it and you can't focus too much on the negative," said Leni.

She admitted that going down a rabbit hole of hateful comments can be hard, "especially if you spend a lot of time on social media," but the positive comments usually outweigh them.

Plus, she jokingly admitted: "Most of the comments are in German, and I don't really understand many of them. That helps too, of course."

In October 2022, Leni spoke with PEOPLE about coming up in the same industry as her mom and addressed the "nepo baby" status attached with it.

"It's just a fact. My parents are famous," she said of carving her own path while being the daughter of celebrities (Leni was adopted by Heidi's ex-husband Seal in December 2009).

"I did get help starting off, and I know that people would dream to start off with what I had. I'm so grateful that I've been able to take what was gifted to me by my mom. But I am doing the work and putting in the time. Now I'm working on my own, traveling alone, going to school. My mom and I just have the same love for the same thing."

Heidi, who also spoke with PEOPLE in 2020, has been candid about her reservations about Leni's modeling pursuits, especially after years of keeping her children out of the public eye. However, she decided it was the right time when her daughter turned 16. "I figured if you can do that, you can also model now if this is what you wish to do.”

Since then, she's been nothing of supportive of her eldest's journey — and is even shocked herself when she sees how much resemblance she sees in her.

"It is the wildest thing," Heidi said during a 2021 appearance on The Late Late Show. "Sometimes I see myself in her because we're quite goofy and silly and she's on the set, like, being me. It's like a mini-me, but then she's doing her own thing. It's a lot of fun to watch."

Heidi and Seal's oldest son Henry Samuel, 19, also dipped his toe into the fashion world this past January when he made his runway debut in the Lena Erziak Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2025 show.
